4 Awesome Halloween Activities for Kids
Gather the whole family for spooky fun for everyone!
Create a Gross Touch and Feel Station
Kids love touching yucky stuff, and you’ll love watching them them squeal as they imagine what it is they’re touching. Put each of these items in bowls or boxes then cover them and make a hole in the top just big enough for a hand to reach inside. Then place signs in front of each bowl to let them know what they’re about to feel. (Little do they know, they’re actually foods they eat every day!)
- Ears – dried apricots
- Eyeballs – peeled grapes
- Toes – baby carrots
- Teeth – popcorn kernels
- A brain – steamed cauliflower
- A heart – a peeled tomato
- Intestines – cooked spaghetti noodles
Have a Scavenger Hunt With Creepy Clues
This is one of our favorite family halloween activities. Write out clues on sheets of paper, then have one clue lead to the other. The kids will have to finish the sentence in order to get their next clue. Have the hunt end in their bedroom where they’ll find a halloween prize such as a pumpkin pillow or a Halloween book to read after trick or treating. Here are some ideas for clues, but you can certainly be creative and come up with your own!
Skeletons clatter and clink. Find a bone (or clue) in your _____________.
The stinky potion starts to ooze. These stink, too. They’re your smelly _______.
Goblins wait on the bridge. Find them a snack. Look in the ________.
Watch out! The zombies crawl toward the next clue in the _________.
Ghosts haunt the castle moat. Brr, it’s cold. Look in your __________.
Beware the skulls of the dead. Where could they be? Look in your ______.
Snuggle Up for a Scary Movie Marathon
Take a break from a busy day of halloween activities for kids and crash on the couch for a few hours. From classics to new releases, you’ll find multiple family friendly movies on Netflix and cable. Just don’t be surprised if they want to sleep with you on your cozy mattress that night! Here are a few suggestions:
- Hocus Pocus
- Scooby Doo
- Monsters, Inc.
Build a Protective Fort
Whether they want to take refuge from the monsters they saw in scary movies or they just want to have a halloween sleepover with friends, you can help your kids build an epic pillow fort where they’ll feel super safe. All you need is sheets, pillows, blankets — and their mattress topper may even come in handy!
Using a bunk bed. Just tuck sheets or blankets under the top mattress and hang them to make a wall surrounding the bottom bed. Making a fort on the top bunk is possible too, especially if you have a twin mattress topper. Stand the mattress topper on its side and stick it between the rail and the mattress. Place big pillows at the head and foot of the bed, and then throw a big comforter over the top!
Using mattresses on the floor. To make an epic pillow fort on the floor for a sleepover, drag two or three mattresses into one big room. Surround the mattresses with kitchen chairs (facing away from the mattresses), and drape blankets from one side of the fort to the other. Use clothespins or heavy books to hold the blankets in place, then toss in pillows, flashlights and fun Halloween books to read!
