Which Mattress Company Comes Out on Top?

If you’re thinking about buying a new mattress from our inventory at Beloit Mattress Company in Beloit, WI, you may be wondering how well they mattresses stack up against a more well-known mattress brand like Sealy. So, let’s compare Sealy and Beloit mattresses, and see which one comes out on top.

Sealy

Sealy is a brand of mattresses currently marketed and sold by Tempur Sealy International. Sealy gets its name from the town where the Sealy Corporation originally started – Sealy, Texas.

In 1881, a cotton gin builder named Daniel Haynes began making cotton-filled mattresses for his friends and neighbors. A few years later, he patented an invention that compressed cotton for use in his mattresses. Eventually, he sold his patents to a Texas company that took on the Sealy name and expanded it to a national market.

Today, the company owns and operates 25 bedding plants in the U.S. Sealy also has licensees operating in Australia, Argentina, Bahamas, Israel, Jamaica, Japan, New Zealand, South Africa, Thailand, and the United Kingdom. Sealy sells the majority of its mattresses under its three main brands: Sealy Posturepedic, Stearns & Foster, and Bassett.

Beloit Mattress Company

Like Sealy, Beloit Mattress Company is also named after the town in which it was established. One major distinction when you compare Sealy and Beloit is that Beloit Mattress Company still operates its mattress factory and showroom in Beloit, Wisconsin.

A local Beloit, WI, family founded Beloit Mattress Company in 1929. Back then, it was a small, family-run mattress factory where skilled workers made innerspring mattresses by hand.

In 1954, the local Poppie family purchased Beloit Mattress Company, and they kept the mattress factory and showroom right here in Beloit, Wisconsin, where the family still owns and operates it today. They also still make superb quality, locally sourced Beloit mattresses by hand, using the same time-tested techniques that were used when the company was founded over 85 years ago.

However, although Beloit mattresses are still constructed in the same way they were in the 1930s, Beloit Mattress Company also employs the latest bedding technology. In that way, Beloit offers the best of both worlds – sturdy, time-tested construction methods combined with the latest innerspring technology and innovative product design.

Sealy vs. Beloit: Mattresses

Sealy and Beloit both make four different mattress types:

  • Traditional innerspring
  • Memory foam
  • Latex
  • Hybrid

When you compare Sealy and Beloit mattresses, the distinction really comes down to how the mattresses are made. Sealy mattresses are machine-quilted by factory workers in mattress plants across the U.S. and in several other countries.

Beloit mattresses, on the other hand, are handcrafted right in here Beloit, WI – in the same building where you buy them.
